Leicester 'close' to Mackail-Smith deal

Leicester City are 'close' to signing Peterborough United striker Craig Mackail-Smith, according to the Posh chairman.

Darragh MacAnthony revealed that despite bids from Queen's Park Rangers, Norwich City and Brighton & Hove Albion, only the Foxes' bid was accepted and the player was set to meet with Sven Goran Eriksson yesterday.

"I would expect him to sign for Leicester on Friday," MacAnthony told the BBC, ""I presume if Sven gets on with Craig he'll be a Leicester City player on Friday."

There has been no word yet from either club to confirm that Mackail-Smith, 27, has penned a deal at the Walkers Stadium.

Meanwhile, it is understood that Sheffield Wednesday are interested in signing Foxes' winger Lloyd Dyer. The 28-year-old was bought to the Walkers Stadium on instruction from then-Chairman Milan Mandaric, now at Hillsborough, who is again chasing the pacey left-sided player.
