Yakubu is close to signing a permanent deal at the Walkers Stadium, according to the BBC's Ian Stringer.
The striker made a success of his loan spell with Leicester City in the latter half of last season, scoring eleven goals in his twenty league appearances. And, despite fans' criticism of his supposedly 'lazy' style, he would prove a popular addition to Sven Goran Eriksson's squad.
Stringer understands that, despite newspaper rumours to the contrary, a deal has not yet been completed and deal is yet to be finalized due to delays at his current club, Everton.
It is, however, believed Yakubu will sign for Leicester City within the next week.
